For those of you who have not yet attended a family-friendly screening at the theater or a Family Saturday @ The Lab, JBFC Kids is our exciting initiative designed to make the theater-going experience more inviting for kids. We welcome a new generation of viewers and their families into our community of cinema lovers and media-makers by planning monthly family-friendly screenings, offering a full roster of courses and workshops for ages 3—13, and hosting free, hands-on activities on the first Saturday of select months—Family Saturdays @ The Lab—at our Media Arts Lab.
As part of this initiative, the JBFC is proud to announce the first two events in our “JBFC Kids On Location” series! JBFC Kids On Location presents a new and exciting way for families to engage with our educational staff and film programming through media-centric activities. By bringing the magic of “viewing and doing” off-site to new people, places, and communities throughout Westchester, we hope to spread awareness of the kid-friendly programming, from screenings to events, that we host across the JBFC campus.
To that end, we have two JBFC Kids On Location events coming up this month. Join us at either or both to get a taste of the Burns’ unique approach to visual storytelling, and learn more about our film and educational offerings!
- First, join us at the Pleasantville Farmers Market on Saturday, August 12 from 9:30—11:00 am for a FREE, hands-on activity that will enable children to flex their creative muscles, think like a director, and learn the language of film! Visitors are welcome to engage with the staff at our booth, or make us a stop on your way through the farmers market. Pleasantville's Farmers Market is the largest in Westchester and takes place in Memorial Plaza, next to the Pleasantville train station.
- Our second JBFC Kids On Location event of the summer will take place at the Westchester Mall on Saturday, August 19 from 1:00—3:00 pm. Children and their families can join us in Savor Westchester's Connect space (next to the "Play" space on the top floor) for a series of FREE, engaging, and unique media activities, including stop-motion animation stations and a live green-screen photo booth. Those interested in attending this special event should register HERE, making sure to select only the number of children who will be attending from the drop-down menu - do not include parents or guardians in the number when completing the registration process! Because this event is free, space will be limited, so we encourage you to register your child sooner rather than later.
JBFC Staff will be present at both events to answer any questions you may have about JBFC Kids, theater programming, Courses @ The Lab for kids, teens, and adults, Family Saturdays @ The Lab, and more. We hope to see you there!
