Through our JBFC Kids initiative, the JBFC welcomes a new generation of viewers and their families into our community of cinema lovers and media-makers by planning family-friendly screenings, offering a full roster of courses and workshops for kids age 3—13, and hosting FREE, hands-on activities on the first Saturday of select months at our Media Arts Lab.
Building on the success of our JBFC Kids initiative as it wraps up its first full year in operation, the Jacob Burns Film Center launched “JBFC Kids: On Location” this August to further our reach. JBFC Kids: On Location presents a new and exciting way for families to engage with our educational staff and film programming through media-centric activities. By bringing the magic of “viewing and doing” offsite to new people, places, and communities throughout Westchester, we hope to spread awareness of the kid-friendly programming—from screenings to events—that we host across the JBFC campus.
This past Saturday, August 19, we partnered with the Westchester Mall to host a series of FREE, hands-on media activities in their new “Savor Westchester” space on the fourth floor of the mall. Kids and families alike dove into experiences ranging from live green screening to animation stations.
Meanwhile, younger children had the chance to color and create their own characters, which gave them the opportunity to experience the magic of animation, too!
JBFC Staff were on hand during the event to answer questions about JBFC Kids, theater programming, Courses @ The Lab, Family Saturdays @ The Lab, and more. We love introducing new patrons and students to our unique approach to media literacy, so we hope to see you at our next JBFC Kids event.
Couldn’t make it on Saturday but want to stay in the loop regarding future events? Sign up for our mailing list HERE, and remember to sign up for both the "JBFC Kids" and "Courses @ The Lab" bulletins!
