The Jacob Burns Film Center (JBFC) is a dynamic, dual-mission nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting literacy for a visual culture. The JBFC presents the best of cinema in our art house theater, while our Media Arts Lab offers a variety of courses and workshops for students age 4—94. Registration for our fall slate of Courses @ The Lab is now open, so we encourage you to explore our website and register online! Read on to learn more about a few highlights before diving deeper:
JBFC Kids: Pre-K—Grade 8
JBFC Kids welcomes a new generation of viewers and their families into our community of cinema lovers and media-makers by offering an array of courses, monthly screenings at the Theater for families, and FREE activities at our Family Saturdays @ The Lab program. Kids large and small find opportunities to imagine, create, play, learn, write, discuss, collaborate, and have fun in our classes, so join us this fall! Fall course highlights include:
- Storyville, Grades 1—2: Sept. 12—Oct. 24
- Experiments in Media Workshop, Grades 3—4: Nov. 18
- Video Game Club, Grades 5—8, Oct. 14—Nov. 18
- Cinemania, Grades 7—8: Sept. 27—Dec. 20
Creators’ Co-op: Grades 9—12
Step up to this high-school—only community! Take workshops, create original projects, crew for fellow filmmakers, receive support, and take advantage of our state-of-the art facilities and equipment. For one flat fee, Creators’ Co-op members may take up to four workshops each semester to develop essential skills. Choose to learn about writing a personal screenplay, improvisation, cinematography, virtual reality, audio engineering, editing, and much more.

Courses for College & Adult Students
Whatever your interests or experience, we invite you to join the JBFC’s creative community, learn from supportive faculty, and take advantage of the Media Arts Lab’s state-of-the-art equipment and resources. Courses are available during the day, in the evenings, and on weekends so you can fit them into your busy schedule. Course highlights include:

- Film Style & Form—The Art of Cinematography: Sept. 25—Nov. 20

- Brand Yourself—Get Savvy About Social Media: Sept. 28—Oct. 26
As always, we seek to make our Courses @ The Lab as accessible to the public as possible. Thanks to the generous support of donors and JBFC members, full and partial scholarships are available for all courses and are awarded based on financial need. We encourage all students and their families to seek the financial support that will make their course participation possible.
