See Hear Feel Film Grade 3

Paige Grand Pre

See Hear Feel Film teaches students active viewing skills and techniques used to tell a story through film. After watching short films from around the world to spur their creativity, students learn to write with clarity and confidence, improve their storytelling skills, and become keener observers of the world around them. The curriculum consists of four units, each featuring short films, writing exercises, and creative collaboration. All students receive a JBFC Film Journal for their personal writing, drawing, and reflection. The curriculum is available in English and Spanish. Interested in volunteering? Educational Objectives

  • Learn that films are moving visual stories
  • Understand how conflict is created in a story when a character faces obstacles
  • Learn how descriptive language makes people and places come alive
  • Understand how sound works to build a story

See Hear Feel Film will undergo a curricular transition during the 2017—2018 school year as we shift from a teaching-artist model to an integrated classroom experience. Participating educators will teach the program's curriculum directly in the classroom before coming to the Media Arts Lab for a one-time field trip experience. This year we are introducing another third-grade program through the JBFC's Image, Sound, and Story media arts curricula. If you'd like to learn more about our Image, Sound, and Story curriculum, or stay in the loop on professional development offerings for third-grade teachers, we encourage you to request information and sign up for our Schools & Teachers E-Bulletin HERE.

This program would not be possible without the dedicated team of volunteers who generously donate their time and talents each school-year. Interested in volunteering? Find more information here, or email Imani Humphries at
