One of my favorite re-imaginings of a classic story is 1999's Cruel Intentions, a modern day adaption of the 1782 novel Les Liaisons dangereuses. I consistently find myself drawn to classic stories translated to modern school settings (Clueless, 10 Things I Hate About You), and find that the tiered and clique-ridden landscape of high school is a fitting translation for stories focusing on the aristocracy and inequalities inherent to many societal structures. It's also just an awesome opportunity to watch some current big-name actors ham it up as their younger selves.
